I (Trish Regan) find it truly remarkable what has been accomplished in less than a year…
We have a COVID-19 vaccine, actually multiple vaccines, coming to market. This is a testament to the ingenuity, creativity, work ethic, and motivation of our great American companies. It is also a testament to the Trump administration’s efforts to move proactively to address the crisis.
Though many in the mainstream media will never give this president nor his administration any credit for anything, the president worked aggressively to cut the red tape that would have interfered with vaccine efforts.
Seb Gorka is a good friend (who, like me, spends time in the live-free-or-die state of New Hampshire) and a real intellectual who cares very much about this country and the American people. He views policy through the lens of “America First” (also the name of his famed national radio program). Seb writes for us today about the coming vaccine…
Is This the End of the Coronavirus Pandemic?
Do you know who Margaret Keenan is? You should. The 90-year-old grandmother from Coventry, U.K. is the first person to get the new Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Keenan has received the ground-breaking vaccine before anyone in the U.S., despite Pfizer being an American pharmaceutical company.
Irrespective of the immediate domestic political ramifications of this breaking news, this week’s breakthrough is remarkable. Whilst the first recognized case of Coronavirus Disease 2019 – aka COVID-19 – can be traced back to November 2019 (if not earlier), the public knowledge of the disease really began in January of this year. That means the scientific community has identified a deadly novel coronavirus, sequenced that virus, developed rapid testing for it, and then developed an approved vaccine in less than one calendar year.
Since the Englishman Edward Jenner performed the world’s first vaccination in 1796 by using the fluid from a cowpox lesion on a milkmaid’s hand to inoculate the 8-year-old James Phipps, we have never seen such an incredible and rapid national response. And it would not have happened without Operation Warp Speed and the former businessman behind it… President Donald J. Trump.
Although the mainstream is celebrating this week’s news, it is doing so in a strange alternate universe where the president of the United States and his massive private-public initiative doesn’t exist. It is stunning to read column after column, and articles thousands of words long (like this one from the Washington Post) that don’t even mention Trump.
Having worked as his advisor when he was plain old Mr. Trump, and then as his Strategist in the White House, and now as an appointee on one of his Pentagon boards, I can assure you, based upon personal experience, that there is no other politician who could have pulled off such a timeline… from a global pandemic to an actual vaccine all within in the same year. The legacy media may not like it for all kinds of slanted reasons, but White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany is right when she refers to the COVID vaccine as the “Trump vaccine.”
So, is the virus scare now over? Hardly… We have to see how this vaccine, and the several others about to be deployed, actually work. Another major stumbling block, thanks to dubious connections between established vaccines and autism, is that the U.S. has a sizeable “anti-vaxxer” community that will likely refuse this preventative.
And whether or not the “flattening of the curve” will come faster now or not, depending on the herd-immunity being developed in nations where vaccinations are unpopular, we still have the question of China and the origins of COVID-19. The original stories of the wet-market bat or pangolin-related genesis seem spurious by now, but we still do not have clarity on the role of the Wuhan Institute of Virology lab’s role in the initial outbreak.
Given that China remains the world’s largest Communist dictatorship, we are unlikely to see the requisite transparency in the near future, if at all… How then will the international community respond? Whether Beijing can be meaningfully held accountable for its clear malfeasance, misdirection, and blatant propagandizing during the early phases of the global outbreak has yet to be determined.
Then there are other, non-geopolitical questions that remain unanswered but are truly fascinating…
Like, why is it that during the COVID outbreak, we have witnessed the lowest flu season in five years? According to the CDC, incredibly, “influenza positivity rates in specimens tested (a standard metric of community flu activity) fell 98% in 2020 during March 1 through May 16 relative to Sept 29, 2019 through Feb. 29, 2020, plummeting from a median of 19.34% to 0.33%.”
Have flu cases been misdiagnosed as COVID-19 infections on a mass scale? Is that why the Southern hemisphere has been basically flu-free this year?
And lastly, when it comes to America, there is the statistic of annual death rates and “excess deaths” as they are called. Despite this being a pandemic year, you are still more likely to die of a coronary complaint than COVID, an empirical data point that you will likely not hear in the mainstream media.
But before you therefore remove your mask and put down your double cheeseburger in favor of a kale salad, just remember conventional wisdom may be conventional, but it’s rarely wisdom.
